Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi, Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS), paid tributes at the Memorial Cenotaph during his official visit to Japan and reviewed a Guard of Honour on Wednesday (July 30) on the first day of his official visit to Japan that will last through August 2.
He also held discussions with Admiral Saito Akira, Chief of Staff of the Japan Maritime Self-Defence Force (JMSDF), the Indian Navy said.
The visit is part of efforts to strengthen the India-Japan āSpecial Strategic and Global Partnershipā with a focus on maritime cooperation.

What did Admiral Tripathi discuss with Japanese officials?
The two naval chiefs discussed ways to deepen cooperation between their navies. Their talks covered enhanced operational engagements, greater interoperability, the exchange of best practices, collaborative capacity building and training exchange programmes.
According to the Ministry of Defence, the discussions are expected to address a broad range of defence cooperation areas, with emphasis on maritime security and technological collaboration.

Admiral Tripathi will visit JMSDF units and meet the Commander-in-Chief of the Self-Defence Fleet at the Funakoshi JMSDF Base. These engagements are intended to build mutual understanding and strengthen operational coordination between the two navies.
